Facing the future

Facing the future

Barely a week goes by without more reminders that ‘change is inevitable’ or ‘transformation is the future’.  There’s no doubting the power of change cheerleading, but the fact is that change, especially transformational-level change, is a journey into the unknown - into an 'undiscovered country'.

By definition the future is uncertain and we can’t be sure that we have the necessary skills, mindset and culture to succeed: there is a real business risk to think about.  We’re also creatures of habit, so we will tend to resist change unless there’s a very good reason for doing something different.

If we drift or fall into change, risk can easily turn to fear, habit to obstruction.  This then makes proposed change riskier, fuelling fear, fuelling obstruction – you can see the emerging vicious cycle that will threaten whatever the original idea was and potentially, the business.

But sensible strategy, options appraisal and change management can all help to map the route to your new future, to define risk more clearly and to identify the work that needs to be done to ensure that your people can and want to adapt.  In the end, a team that wants to change and understands what it needs to do to succeed, is much more likely to succeed.

Why not speak to us about strategy, options appraisal, change management and skills for business?
